چکیده

The present study involves the optimization of different solvent extract and Standardization of α-mangostin from fruit hulls of Garcinia mangostana was studied by gradient reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for quality control and quantity determination. Chromatographic separation was carried out on Develosil RP C-18 (5 μm, 4.6 x 150mm) at room temperature using a (Gradient phase) mobile phase consisting of flow rate of 1.0mL/min, with UV detection at 245nm. The method has been studied for linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ). The linearity of the proposed method was found in the range of 10-200 ug mL with regression coefficient 0.9998. The method was also applied for the determination of mangostin in three samples collected from three different places and two herbal formulation. The proposed HPLC method was simple, accurate, precise and it is suitable for performing the quality control of crude extract and herbal formulation.

γ-Mangostin from Garcinia mangostana pericarps as a dual agonist that activates Both PPARα and PPARδ.

We tested the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)δ agonistic activity of a Garcinia mangostana pericarp extract to develop a treatment for the metabolic syndrome, and demonstrated γ-mangostin to be an active compound on the basis of a luciferase reporter gene assay. γ-Mangostin induced the expression of the uncoupling protein-3 (UCP-3) gene which is related to energy expenditure a...

Electrospun chitosan-based nanofiber mats loaded with Garcinia mangostana extracts.

The aim of this study was to prepare electrospun chitosan-based nanofiber mats and to incorporate the fruit hull of Garcinia mangostana (GM) extracts into the mats. Chitosan-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid/polyvinyl alcohol (CS-EDTA/PVA) was selected as the polymers. The GM extracts with 1, 2 and 3 wt% α-mangostin were incorporated into the CS-EDTA/PVA solution and electrospun to obtain nanofib...

Antioxidant xanthones from the pericarp of Garcinia mangostana (Mangosteen).

As part of ongoing research on cancer chemopreventive agents from botanical dietary supplements, Garcinia mangostana L. (commonly known as mangosteen) was selected for detailed study. Repeated chromatography of a CH2Cl2-soluble extract of the pericarp led to the isolation of two new highly oxygenated prenylated xanthones, 8-hydroxycudraxanthone G (1) and mangostingone [7-methoxy-2-(3-methyl-2-b...

Pharmacokinetic properties of pure xanthones in comparison to a mangosteen fruit extract in rats.

The xanthones α-mangostin and γ-mangostin are the major bioactive compounds in Garcinia mangostana (mangosteen) fruit extracts. Previously, we reported the pharmacokinetic properties of α-mangostin in rats. The purpose of this follow-up study was to compare the pharmacokinetic characteristics of α-mangostin and γ-mangostin in rats if administered as either a pure compound or as a component of a...

Development and validation of a fast, simple and specific stability indicating RP-HPLC method for determination of Dexpanthenol in eye gel formulation.

AIn this study a simple and reliable stability-indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for analysis of Dexpanthenol in an artificial tear formulation. The chromatographic separation was performed on a HPLC C18 column (25.0 cm  4.6 mm, 5 m) using a mixture of 0.037 M monobasic potassium phosphate in water (adjusted with 0.1% (v/v) phosphoric acid to a pH of 3.2) and methanol (90:...
